"Gay Paradise - Kind of". Les espaces de l'homosexualité masculine à Beyrouth

However, homosexual intercourse is still punishable by law and socially condemned. By studying places of self-expression and sociability or cruising areas of gay people in Beirut, the article questions the constitution of a gay Lebanese identity and the creation of a homosexual public within the urban public space. To this end, the work on spaces of nightlife and gay cruising areas is attempting to consider the links between local norms and dominant global logics of flows of sexual identities. Owing to the place assigned to homosexual locations in Beirut, between accessibility, dissimulation and enclosure, the study also examines the relationship to space and to their spaces, in terms of visibility or invisibility of the stigma.A Beyrouth, les bars et les boîtes de nuits accueillant des publics homosexuels se multiplient et font partie du paysage nocturne, au point de devenir un argument touristique pour la ville. Les relations avec une personne de même sexe sont pourtant punies par la loi et fortement réprouvées par la société libanaise. A travers l'étude des lieux d'expression, de sociabilité ou de rencontre des homosexuels à Beyrouth, l'article interroge la constitution d'une identité gay libanaise et la formation d'un public homosexuel au sein de l'espace public urbain. Pour cela, le travail sur les espaces festifs et les lieux de drague homosexuels tente de penser les hybridations entre des pratiques et des normes locales et des logiques globales de circulation des identités sexuelles. En raison de la place assignée aux lieux de l'homosexualité à Beyrouth, entre accessibilité, dissimulation et enfermement, l'étude questionne également le rapport des homosexuels à l'espace et à leurs espaces, en termes de visibilité et d'invisibilité du stigmate
